Coming Together in a Global Social Sculpture
Radio Evolve - Thomas Steininger in dialogue with Shelley Sacks, 30 June 2022
”In this episode of Radio evolve, Thomas Steininger speaks with Shelley Sacks about this social sculpture of 7000 humans, 7000 trees, and 7000 commitments to which we are all invited. 7000 HUMANS is an initiative of the Social Sculpture Lab for New Knowledge and an Eco-Social Future. It grew out of the Kassel21 Social Sculpture Lab hosted by the documenta Archive for the Beuys centenary, curated by Sacks.
It is Sacks' response to a persistent questions from a lab visitor, and permaculture and social process designer, Ulrike Oemisch: “What follows the 7000 OAKS?'“

Update: 2024
7000 HUMANS is continuing with a special focus on ‘working with questions’ from its base in Kassel in relation to the 7000 Oaks. New developments will be described on the dedicated web-platform in early 2025, including ways in which 7000 HUMANS projects can be developed in other global localities. 7000humans.com
7000 HUMANS is also part of the GLOBAL SOCIAL FOREST initiative to be launched in early 2025. This global social forest involves using connective practice and moral imagination approaches to enable mind-shift work in different contexts, communities and regions of the world. It has a special focus on strengthening the ‘social mycelium’ and creating ‘social honey’ to nourish our work towards a living future.
